A post-mortem examination performed yesterday on the body of Shariz Ali, who was discovered dead in his home on Monday revealed that he died as a result of multiple incised wounds, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.
Blanhum informed Stabroek News that from all indications Ali was attacked from behind and an investigation has been launched into the matter. No one has yet been arrested.
When Stabroek News contacted Ali’s mother, Bibi Shaliza Hamid, yesterday she said she is still puzzled as to why someone would want to end her only child’s life so gruesomely.
She is hoping that the perpetrator/s will be captured soon and justice will be served. “I would find peace of mind to know who did this to my son,” the mother said.
Ali, called “Ameer”, 22, of Lot 2 Good Hope Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, was discovered dead by his mother around 1.30 pm on Monday. He was the lone occupant of a two-storey wooden house for the past few years, was last seen alive on Sunday evening by residents.
Hamid had told Stabroek News that after constantly trying to contact Ali on his cellphones on Monday morning, she left her home in Stanleytown, Berbice to visit his house. There, she found him dead lying face down on his bed in his bedroom
A hammer, knife and cigarette packets were among the items recovered by detectives. The Crime Chief had informed this newspaper that two cigarette butts that were discovered on a table would be preserved for DNA testing.
