Atwell, Gonsalves, ripped, ready for Brawl in the Mall

Dexter ‘The Cobra’ Gonsalves and Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell are ripped and ready for their WBC FECARBOX super lightweight collision this evening at the Giftland Mall.

Gonsalves tipped the scales yesterday at a shredded 135 lbs., while the equally supremely conditioned Atwell crept right under weight limit at a fighting ready 139 lbs.

The bout will be the main attraction of the four-fight (pro) ‘Caribbean Knockdown’ card.

Tonight, Gonsalves 7(4)-1-2 attempts to keep his win streak which is now at 13 alive while his former world rated opponent will look to return to being a world rated contender.

Atwell 13(7)-2-1 has never lost a professional bout on home soil and will be looking to keep it that way against the hard hitting, lanky pugilist who has built an impressive resume since turning pro in 2006.

Gonsalves, a former national lightweight title holder has defeated Trinidadians Prince Lee Isidore, Mohamed Dawes, Michel Agard, Mark Storm and locals Mark Austin and Revlon Lake. His last three fights have all ended with KO wins.

The 25-year old ‘Punisher’ however is a different kettle of fish. He is a total contrast to the other local pugilists that succumbed to Gonsalves. Atwell fought for a world title just last May and has the tools to win the vacant FECRABOX crown.

Despite his back-to-back losses before beating Sakima Mullings in February, Atwell serves as Gonsalves most significant opponent outside of Austin and the toughest challenge of his career.

A thrilling bout is on the cards.

“A blend of a tremendous main event backed by some fresh talent,” was how President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Peter Abdool dubbed tonight’s event.

In the co-feature, Anson Green and Quincy Gomes will match gloves in a light welterweight match up scheduled for six rounds.

The organizers have also pitted Terrence Adams against Keeve Allicock in a four-round featherweight fight.

Former amateur standout Imran ‘Magic’ Khan will be making his pro debut versus David Thomas in a four-round lightweight scrap.

There will also be four amateur bouts.

Tickets cost $2000 for regular seating and $5000 for VIP. See you there.
