A titanic doubleheader will bring the curtains down on the ninth round of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League when Alpha United tackles the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Fruta Conquerors opposes Pele FC today at the Tucville ground.
In the feature contest at 20:00hrs, league leaders Pele will attempt to extend their lead at the zenith of the standings when they oppose the host team. Sitting comfortably on 17 points, Pele will enter the matchup on a high after crushing Alpha United 3-0 in their last fixture.
They will also have good memories of their last meeting against today’s opponents after emerging victorious by a 2-1 margin in the first round and will hope that tourney top shot with seven conversions Gregory Richardson alongside Travis Grant, Jumane Somerset and the recently returned Konata Manning can inspire an identical outcome.
On the other side, the fifth positioned Fruta Conquerors will be desperate to make amends for their first round loss to their fierce rivals and will look to build on their recent 1-0 win over Berbice outfit Monedderlust FC.
The likes of Trevon Lythcott, Eon Alleyne, Jermin Junior, Rafael Edwards, Delon Williams and Kwame LaFleur must be firing on all cylinders if the home side are to avenge their earlier loss and secure the vital three points.
While the feature contest is expected to be nail-biter, the opening fixture at 18:00hrs is equally deserving of the same label as second positioned Alpha United and fourth placed GDF continue their longstanding rivalry following their 1-1 result in the first round.
Brought down to earth 3-0 by Pele in their previous fixture, the ‘Hammers’ will attempt to get their campaign back to winning ways and will require a better showing led by the combination of Delon Lanferman, Daniel Wilson, Williams Europe, Quincy Madramootoo and Dwayne Lawrence, if they are to be successful.
Similarly, the army unit find themselves in an identical position following their 2-1 upset loss to Buxton United in their prior matchup.
They will now hope that their top shot with four goals in Delroy Fraser alongside the trident of Delwyn Fraser, Eusi Phillips and Seon Prince can rediscover their form come opening whistle.
