Employees of Scotiabank are aiming to reach a target of $2M, when they host their annual cake sale in aid of cancer prevention and treatment programmes on 31 October, 2015, at the Robb Street branch from 7am to 1pm.
For the past 14 years the campaign has been the Bank’s flagship charitable event garnering new milestones each successive year, a press release from the bank said. A total of $1.4 M was raised in 2014 with matching funds received from the Scotiabank Bright Future Programme. This year they are aiming to replicate this total which will be matched by Scotiabank’s corporate donations. The event has already received support from customers who have purchased pink T-shirts or made donations.
The release disclosed that the bank’s Bright Future Programme aids children and the under-privileged in areas of health, education, social wellbeing, environment and culture by channelling employee volunteer hours and finances into these programmes.
Brian Hackett, Branch Manager Scotiabank Robb Street disclosed that they are hoping to surpass the large donations they made to several cancer organisations including the Periwinkle Club last year.
During this Cancer Awareness Month Scotia bankers have worn pink on Fridays to raise the level of awareness of breast and other types of cancer, and also to promote the upcoming cake sale. The organisation is encouraging the public to support the fundraiser and is promising to feature patrons on its Facebook page.
