A crane working on a construction site at Robb and Camp streets yesterday collapsed while hoisting a log, leaving workers scrambling for safety and attracting scores of persons.
No one was reportedly injured but the crane was severely damaged. While workers on site were reluctant to speak, an eyewitness told Stabroek News that she observed when the crane was lifting the log. As the log was almost upright the machine toppled sending the log bouncing.
Another man who was close by said that he was alerted by the impact of the accident and the loud cries of workers who were on site.
When Stabroek News visited, men were busy at work removing the bent up boom of the machine. Later in the day the crane along with the boom was seen mounting a low bed for removal from the site.
Many piles have been driven at this site in recent days.
