The Georgetown Football Club (GFC) secured its second win of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League upsetting Buxton United 2-0 Saturday at the No. #5 ground, Berbice.
Romario Welcome and Delon Cadogan secured the vital three points with first half goals in the fourth and 28th minutes respectively.
GFC are now on eight points and in seventh position with Buxton in sixth position with nine points.
Entering the matchup on the back of a 5-0 drubbing to Slingerz FC, the Bourda-based unit got off to the perfect start four minutes into the action as Welcome scored, slotting home after collecting a left-side pass from Kelsey Benjamin within the penalty box.
Cadogan then basically sealed the win 24 minutes later as an attempted cross from the right side of the field sailed over the head of the ‘keeper and into the back of the net.
The second stanza of the cagey encounter saw Mikhail Stewart almost adding to the score line in the 52nd minute but was denied by the ‘keeper from within the left side of the box, after racing past his marker.
GFC’s win was then slightly soured in the 85th minute as Mikhail Stewart picked up his second yellow card. In the feature contest, Slingerz FC downed Monedderlust FC 2-0.
