Jeffrey’s winning streak continues

Add another Digicel Cancer Awareness road race trophy to Raynauth Jeffrey’s collection.

After 80 miles and two stages of racing at West Demerara, the East Coast and the city, the Team Coco’s standout emerged winner of the fourth edition of the event for the second time.

Only second stage winner, Orville Hinds overall victory last year prevented Jeffrey from a three-peat this year.

Yesterday, Jeffrey won the first 40-mile stage from Schoonord to Parika and back then placed second in the final stage from Abary to Carifesta Avenue despite suffering a punctured back wheel.

For his efforts, Jeffrey rode off with $250,000. Not bad for three hours of work.

Three hours, 15 minutes and 32 seconds to be exact.

His winning streak which includes the Ounce of Gold victory since returning to the local circuit last month is now at three.

Jeffrey is in sublime form heading into this week’s Tour of Guyana.

Following the race, representatives of Digicel made a lucrative donation to the Cancer Society.

In excess of $1.3M in cash and prizes were up for grabs yesterday.

Notes: It was a great day for men in neon green from Team Coco’s. Their riders occupied the top spot in all the categories except for the female. Junior Niles won for the veterans, Jamal John took the junior trophy and of course Jeffrey won the seniors. (Emmerson Campbell)
