Please fix my phone

Dear Editor,

This is a plea to GT&T to please do something, anything, to fix my home phone which has been out of order since Wednesday, October 21st.

I did what I had to do, reported the fault, which took more than one hour of waiting for a human being to answer the phone. It is extremely hypocritical of the personnel at GT&T who created that message “your call is important to us”. If my call is so important, hire a human being to answer the phone. Like most normal people, I have to work. I cannot afford to wait on hold for over an hour to report a fault on the telephone service to my house.

Not having heard from GT&T, I called a friend who is a senior Director of the company, who told me that the fault is due to vandalism in my area. I find it strange that my neighbour’s phone is working and mine is not. Did the vandals target me alone? Strange, to say the least. Notwithstanding that, there has been no public announcement from GT&T about vandalism, in stark contrast to the numerous radio, TV and newspaper announcements about a fire on the Railway Embankment Road which has disrupted telephone service there since yesterday. So, I do not believe the story of vandalism.

My questions are: 1) will GT&T give me a credit on my DSL bill for October for all the days that I cannot access the internet or make a telephone call from my home phone and 2) when will service be restored to my house?

Yours faithfully,

Jennifer Bulkan
