With the start of the Tour of Guyana Five-Stage road race just two days away, Team Coco’s decided to put on a dress rehearsal on Sunday during the course of Digicel’s two stage event.
The wheelsmen in the crisp neon green racing kit occupied the top two positions in the senior category (Raynauth Jeffrey and Jaime Ramirez) and the top spots in the veteran (Junior Niles) and junior (Jamal John) divisions.
Team Coco’s had pulled out of last year’s fixture due to a 30-second penalty which was imposed on their riders for a feeding infringement. This year however by their sheer numbers and overwhelming amount of talent, Team Coco’s is primed to dominate the four-day, 266-mile event which will attract many overseas riders.
With the likes of Jeffrey who is on a three-race winning streak, National road race champion, Hamza Eastman, Niles, Ramirez (Colombian), fifth place finisher at this year’s Caribbean Elite cycling Championships, Darren Matthews (Barbadian), John, Stephano Husbands, Mark Harris and others to come, it will take a miracle to prevent the potent Team Coco’s outfit from crowding the podium at the conclusion of the Tour of Guyana on Sunday.
After the initial stages on Thursday (Corriverton to New Amsterdam then Rosignol to Carifesta Avenue), the ninth annual Tour of Guyana continues Friday at the West Coast of Demerara.
On Saturday, action continues in the Cinderella County followed by the final stage on Sunday from Linden to Homestretch Avenue. (Emmerson Campbell)
