A father of two is now hoping that he would be able to use his hands normally after he was stabbed on Monday evening by another during a disagreement.
Injured is Mahendra Bhola Sukhu, 34, of Lot 83 Block CC, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Sukhu who is a part-time taxi driver was stabbed to both of his hands and also sustained wounds to his shoulder and abdomen. He had to undergo surgery to his left hand and is currently unable to move or feel anything on a few of his fingers. The stabs to the right hand required over 50 stitches.
The perpetrator was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and Sukhu is still trying to figure what may have caused him to harm him to this extent.
Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday from his home, hours after he was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), Sukhu said that around 7:30 PM on Monday he was heading home from Georgetown in a car, which he rents from a close friend and as he was making his way through his street he saw a car parked in his way and requested the driver, who is known to him, since he also resides in the said street to move aside so he could pass.
“I just see he go in his car and put on the interior lights and I thought is something he did looking for but by time I look back the man appear in front of me with long knife and aim for my neck”, Sukhu said.
It was then that he tried to block with his hands and was chopped severely. As the man continued to inflict injuries by standing at the driver side window of the car, Sukhu said he managed to drive away during which he even damaged the car.
He recalled bleeding profusely but still managing to call out for his sister who immediately rushed outside after sensing something was not right. After learning what transpired, Sukhu’s sister rushed to inform her husband who placed Sukhu into the said car and drove him to the GPH.
The wounded man fears he won’t be able to use his hands as before. He also expressed dissatisfaction at being discharged from the hospital given his condition.
Sukhu and his relatives are also unhappy with the police investigations into the matter. They said the perpetrator was spotted at his house where he went after the incident and even informed his relatives that he had just killed someone. Residents who saw what transpired were fearful of intervening since they are aware of what kind of person the perpetrator is, according to Sukhu.
