Colts and Dynas Ravens clinched contrasting berths to the semi-final round in the 5th Brusches’ Classic Basketball championships downing Pacesetters and Plaisance Guardians respectively on Tuesday at the Burnham Court.
The feature contest of the night witnessed Colts edging Pacesetters by a 70-65 score line. Dave Causeway recorded a game-high 21 points while Shane Webster provided ample support with 20 points. Chipping in with seven points was Rayon Cummings.
On the other side, Travis Burnette led the way with 19 points. He was supported by Royston Siland who netted 10 points. The opening period saw Colts seizing the advantage as they went ahead 13-9.
Colts then built on their lead in the second stanza, scoring 21 points while restricting their opponent to 17 points to go into the half time interval leading by a 34-26 score line. The lead remained unchanged in the third period for Colts as both teams scored 20 points.
With the score 54-46 entering the final quarter, Colts survived a late surge by their opponents who outscored them 19-16 to clinch the win.
In the opening fixture, Ravens crushed the East Coast of Demerara unit Guardians by a 71-49 score line. Guest player for the tourney Jason Squires alongside Tyrone Hamid top scored in the win with 13 points apiece while Ryan Gullen supported with eight points.
For the losers, Enoch Matthews shot his way to 11 points while Trenton Woolford scored nine points. Action in the event is set to continue tomorrow in Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) court.
