Rubis Guyana yesterday came on board for yet another year with sponsorship in support of the fifth annual Guyana Softball Cup softball cricket tournament which commences tomorrow at venues across the country.
Yesterday, top officials of the company at a simple ceremony at the Rubis outlet, Vlissengen Road, presented the sponsorship package to members of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA), the organisers of the tournament.
Rhonda Johnson, Rubis’ Retail Accounts Executive and Sharon Mohan of the Vlissengen Road branch, met with the GFSCA members Ricky Deonarain, Jailall Deodass, Surendra Nauth and Clive Canterbury.
A partner since 2011, Johnson said her company was more than pleased to once again partner with the organisers, noting that the GSFCA has been doing a fantastic job in running off the tournament annually.
She said that she expected the same level of professionalism that has prevailed over the years, both on and off the field, and said it should be an easy task to replicate such high standards, given the proficiency of the GFSCA members, according to a press release.
Deodass, of the GFSCA, said the body was grateful for the support of Rubis Guyana on a yearly basis. He disclosed that the company started its involvement with the tournament through Bel Air Rubis for the first two years, before it became a general sponsorship on behalf of Rubis Guyana for the past three years.
A total of 26 teams, 10 in the Open and 16 in the Masters, will compete for honours tomorrow when the competition commences. The competition will end Sunday under floodlights at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
Wolf’s Warriors are the defending champions of the Open category while Floodlights won the Masters division in 2014.
There will be a team briefing this afternoon from 17:30h at the Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion where the rules will be discussed.
