Wins for Regal XI, Savage Masters and NYSCL All Stars among other teams, highlighted the opening day of the Guyana Softball Cup 5 which bowled off its preliminary round yesterday across venues in the city.
At Everest, Regal XI defeated Warriors by four runs after they notched up 211 for 8 in 20 overs. Richard Latiff 83 (7 x4, 6 x6); Sachin Singh 39 not out (3 x4, 3 x6) were the destroyers.
Bowling for Wolf Warriors Mark Harold grabbed 2-25 from four overs and Wazir Hussain 2-27 from 4 overs, as they were restricted Wolf Warriors to 207 for 8 in 20 overs despite knocks from Ravindra Ramnauth of 63 (3 x4, 6 x6); Safraz Karim 38 (3 x6) and Azad Azeez 32 (2 x4, 2 x6).
NYSCL All Stars beat Hyde Park by 7 wickets thanks to Pooran Beria’s 68 which took his team to 159-3, chasing 155. In the Masters category, Savage Masters whipped Parika Defenders at Everest by 20 runs.
Ramo Molone 81 not out (5 x4, 4 x6), Talesh Ramatar 44(3×4, 3×6) were the primary scorers. In reply, Parika Defenders in reply were restricted to 161 all out in 19.5 overs but had good contributions from S. Mohammed 70 and R. Rambharose 41.
