Three hundred and seventy-five new members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have completed the basic recruit courses resulting in their promotion to the rank of private with 283 of those soldiers being attached to the regular force and the remaining 92 the reserve force.
According to a GDF press release, the new soldiers were passed out in a simple ceremony held in their honour at the Colonel John Clarke Military School at Tacama on October 30 after completing the ten-week course.
In extending congratulations to the new soldiers, Chief of Staff Brigadier General Mark Phillips said, “Everything you do hinges on your consistent demonstration of discipline.
“The GDF is a military institution and discipline underlies and drives everything we do.”
