Raymond Samaroo, the man who was previously charged with stealing the same car twice, has been accused of stealing another vehicle, just one day after he was granted bail by a city court.
Samaroo, 20, was on Friday charged with stealing a Toyota Allion, worth $3 million, on October 28th at Station Street, Kitty. The vehicle is the property of Eon Pearson.
The accused, who was represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Samaroo, who is unemployed and currently resides with his mother, was released from police custody last Friday after he was placed on $150,000 bail by the court. That was the day before his latest carjacking episode.
The prosecution objected to bail being granted due to the seriousness of the charge and also indicated that Samaroo had matters of a similar nature pending before the court.
Fung-A-Fat nevertheless asked that bail be granted in a reasonable sum so that his client could be referred for psychiatric evaluation.
According to the attorney, when Samaroo was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, he had requested an evaluation be done to assess the man’s competency to stand trial. Fung-A-Fat said the accused suffers from delusions and it is his belief that the man is not even aware that he is doing wrong.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who presided over the man’s arraignment on Friday, refused the bail application and ordered that Samaroo return to court on November 2nd.
In August, Samaroo was ordered to be re-institutionalised after he was charged with stealing a car for the second time.
On October 3rd, he allegedly stole a Honda CRV, a Samsung cellphone and $30,000 from Rhonda Joaquin in front of her Garnett Street, Campbellville home.
A month prior, the man appeared before the court after he was accused of stealing a vehicle from Rishi Lall at Sheriff Street while the man’s girlfriend was still seated in the car. The day after that incident, Samaroo reportedly stole the same vehicle again, this time from the police station.
