ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC-West Indies Women romped to a comfortable 11- run victory over Pakistan to secure the T20 International series, taking an unassailable two –nil lead at the National stadium here on Saturday.
The home side was cruising to an easy win when a sharp late afternoon shower interrupted play with five runs needed for victory and 14 balls remaining forcing umpires to decide the match on the Duckworth Lewis method.
Deandra Dottin continued her fine form with the ball with a three wicket haul that wiped out the middle order as the visitors stumbled to 95 for seven in their 20 overs.
Captain Stafanie Taylor resumed her prolific run with a top score of 48 not out to lead her side to victory and continue a Windies women domination after sweeping the one day series three-one.
Pakistan, sent in by West Indies, slipped to 20 for the loss of two wickets after Marina Iqbal was run out in the first over and Iram Javed was removed by Shamilia Connell in the fourth.
Nain Abidi then found a supporting partner in Bismah Maroof and together they dug Pakistan out of a hole with a stubborn second wicket stand which yielded 44 runs.
Abidi led the scoring with 35 from 45 balls while Maroof contributed 25.
But Pakistan’s revival was short-lived when Anisa Mohammed struck, to break-up the partnership and trigger a batting slide.
Dottin disfigured the middle order with outstanding figures of three for 20 which included the important scalp of top scorer Abidi.
West Indies women were also outstanding in the field and succeeded in running out two Pakistan batsmen.
Hayley Matthews continued her poor form with the bat losing her wicket in the second over of the chase with West Indies on 11 However a 43 run partnership for the second wicket between Taylor and Dottin put them on course to victory.
Dottin was stumped on 19 while Taylor’s unbeaten 48 was compiled from 43 balls with two fours and a six before the rain came.
