Customs, Bank of Guyana, Transport and Harbours and John Fernandes Limited secured group stage wins when the inaugural Inter-Ministry/Corporation Banks Beer Futsal Championship continued on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Customs dismantled the Ministry of Public Security 9-3. Carlos Monkhouse recorded five goals in the seventh, eighth, ninth, 14th and 16th minutes. Supporting were Rawle Johnny, Terrence Adams, Vincent Thomas and Muel Lee in the first, 17th, 19th and 20th minutes respectively.
For the losers, Gavin Bobb scored in the fifth and 17th minutes while Shemar Andrews scored in the 13th. Likewise claiming a victory was Bank of Guyana who defeated the Ministry of Agriculture 2-1.
Delon Wilburg and Marvin Yard netted in the first and seventh minute while Romain Lindo scored in the loss in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, Transport and Harbours defeated the Ministry of Tourism 1-0 compliments of an Ulric Bourne effort in the 18th minute.
Also, John Fernandes Incorporated downed the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) by a 3-1 margin. Clifford Cummings, Ray Smith and Wesley Tudor scored in the 12th, 13th and 19th minutes respectively. On target in the loss was Colin Birchman in the 14th minute.
In the other results of the night, Republic Bank defeated Wartsila via walkover while the Ministry of Infrastructure defeated the Guyana National Industrial Company (GNIC) by the identical route.
Oasis Water and the Guyana Power & Light (GPL) contested a 2-2 stalemate. Andy Duke and Daniel Cozier scored in the eighth and 10th minutes respectively while Tavel December and Nickosie Parker scored in the seventh and 13th minutes respectively for GPL.
Similarly, the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs battled to a 2-2 draw. Dominique Hunt and Devon Trotman scored in the third and eight minutes respectively for Foreign Affairs while Shaka Lewis and Xavier Ferzer netted in the ninth and 20th minutes respectively for Forestry. Winner of the event will receive the championship trophy and $200,000 while the second, third and fourth positioned team will receive $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
Action in the championship will continue today at the same venue with the final round of group fixtures.
