The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Associa-tion (GFSCA), yesterday thanked fans who supported the Guyana Softball Cup 5 this past weekend while addressing the controversial final between New York Softball Cricket League and Regal XI.
An official release from the GFSCA, stated that the organising body was indeed pleased with the turnout and support they received over the three day event but were upset over the final match of the evening.
Sunday’s Open final between New York Softball Cricket League and Regal XI where the match was brought into disrepute due to an on-field altercation, the GFSCA stated that they were “extremely disappointed” by the incident.
NYSCL and Regal XI’s encounter came to an end with Regal, chasing 119 for victory, 65 for 2 from 9.3 overs with Richard Latiff looking ominous on 40.
NYSCL were ripped apart earlier by Ameir Nizamadeen who captured 3-10 and Tyrone Sanasi 3-23.
A run out incident which occurred during the Regal innings saw players refusing to take the field after the situation could not be resolved, resulting in Regal being crowned champs.
“We, the members of the GFSCA, wish to register our disapproval of such behaviour, which no doubt brought the game into disrepute and would like to apologise to all and sundry for the unceremonious end to the game,” a release from the organisers stated.
“It must be noted that the GFSCA members tried their best to have the game restarted, but such ambitions proved beyond our control.
“We wish to make it absolutely clear that systems are being implemented to avoid a recurrence of Sunday’s incident in future Guyana Softball Cups,” the release ended.
