A man accused of trying to smuggle over four kilos of cocaine in his luggage at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri was remanded to prison yesterday.
Lincoln Johnson, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before city magistrate Judy Latchman. It is alleged that on October 31 at the CJIA, Johnson had in his possession 4.16 kilogrammes of cocaine for trafficking.
Johnson, who was an outgoing passenger, was caught by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit officers after they noticed that he was behaving in a strange manner. This prompted the officers to conduct a search on the man and they found the illegal substance concealed in tiny black bags in a compartment of his suitcase.
The police prosecutor argued that there were no special reasons for bail to be granted. Johnson was subsequently remanded and ordered to return to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for another hearing on November 12th.
