Gunmen ambush America St moneychangers

At least three America Street moneychangers were robbed last evening when they were ambushed by gunmen on motorbikes.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers, who used five motorbikes and a car to carry out the attack, pulled up at the intersection of Longden and America streets and fired shots into the air while demanding the moneychangers hand over everything. The men were reportedly armed with automatic weapons.

“Everything happen so fast. They say put up you hand, so I just put up my hand and hand over everything,” one victim said, while adding that he was just glad to still be alive.

“I just glad I get me life. All I could say is I glad I get me life,” the distraught man told Stabroek News.
