Two youths were yesterday refused bail after being charged with armed robbery.
The allegation against Jermaine Scott, 19, and Sherman Singh, 18, is that while being in the company of others and armed with a cutlass, they robbed Chris Trodder and Jeremey Jarvis of a quantity of articles valued $31,000 on November 1st.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Representing the two accused, attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat made an application for bail to be granted, while noting that none of the articles mentioned in the charge were found in his clients’ possession. He also said the duo was not placed on an identification parade.
However, Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick objected to bail being granted on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence as well as the fact that a cutlass was used during the course of the robbery. Additionally, he noted that Jarvis’ cell phone was found in Singh’s possession.
As a result, bail was refused and the duo was ordered to return to court on November 12th, when the case would be recalled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
