KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- A report on the state of West Indies cricket is strongly recommending the immediate dissolution of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Cricket sources with knowledge of the contents of the report tell CMC.
CMC has also been reliably informed that the report, by a five member Cricket Review Panel appointed by the CARICOM Sub-committee of Cricket Governance, is recommending the appointment of an interim board to run the affairs of the sport in the region.
The report, which will be made public during a live news conference in Grenada today, is also calling for the creation of a new governance and management structure for cricket in the region as well as a new set of criteria for the selection of the management and board members of WICB.
Meantime, President of WICB Dave Cameron has promised a “full response” to the report.
A statement released late yesterday says that the WICB has received a copy of the document and a response will be submitted to the Chair of the CARICOM Sub-committee on Cricket Governance, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.
The much-anticipated report by the Cricket Review Panel examined the governance structure of WICB and offered recommendations on the way forward for the game in the region.
“I have noted the findings and we will discuss these recommendations with a view to enhancing the existing work of the Secretariat and the Board of Directors,” the release quotes Cameron as saying.
“A full response will be sent to the Chairman”.
A letter accompanying the report, signed by the CARICOM Secretary-General, Irwin Laroque on the request of Chairman, Dr. Mitchell, has asked for the WICB to comment on the findings.
The letter also invited WICB to a meeting to discuss the findings.
A team comprising WICB Directors will be selected at the board’s quarterly meeting in St.Lucia December 12, to attend the meeting with CARICOM.
Last month, the Review Panel, which was put in place after a meeting in Grenada in April, between the CARICOM Cricket Governance Subcommittee of heads and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), submitted their report to the Prime Ministers on the CARICOM Sub-Committee.
The contents of the report will be made public during a live radio and television news conference today hosted by Prime Minister Mitchell and Dr. Eudine Bariteau, principal of UWI-Cavehill and chair of the Cricket Review Panel.
