Despite the controversy of the final of the Open category of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) Guyana Softball Cup 5 tournament, winners of both the Masters and Open categories Regal softball team was (pun intended) regal.

After their upset win over the star-studded GFSCA team in the Masters final, Regal returned to capture the Open category after eventual finalists New York All Stars, walked off the field protesting a decision by one of the umpires.

In the Masters’ final Regal made light work of the challenging score of 160-9 from their 20 overs made by Floodlights to win in a canter reaching 161-4 in 19.5 overs.

Against the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) at the Demerara Cricket Club ground Queenstown, Sunday, the Regal side was well positioned in their run chase of 120 reaching 65-1 from 9.3 overs when the dispute arose and scuttled what would have been an entertaining final.

Nevertheless Regal showed clearly that they were not only intent on reaching but on winning both finals which surely adds to the belief by some softball fans that the team has in its midst some of the country’s finest softball players and that on their day when they are on song, they are simply regal and unstoppable.
