Hours after bandits stormed a supermarket in Mahaica yesterday and attempted to escape with the owner’s motor vehicle, one was later caught and reportedly badly beaten by residents.
Up to late last night he was admitted at a hospital. His identity and condition was not immediately known and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear.
However, a source told Stabroek News that four bandits entered the supermarket located in Mahaica around 5:00 PM yesterday and attempted to escape from the scene with the owner’s motor vehicle during which the car plunged into a nearby canal. As a result, the source said the men made good their escape in the backdam.
Efforts to contact divisional commander Marlon Chapman proved futile.
