The fisherman accused of stealing $1.6 million in items from Guyana Stores Limited was yesterday cleared of the charge after a fingerprint analysis revealed he had been implicated wrongfully.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones yesterday stated that Kevin Anthony Samuel McRae’s fingerprints did not match those found at the crime scene. He explained that when the prints were initially found, the name “McRae” had popped into the system along with the defendant’s picture but when the accused’s prints were later taken the two were not a match.
Given this new evidence submitted by the prosecution, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered that the case against McRae be dismissed.
Mc Rae, 29, who resides at Leopold Street, has been on remand since September for the crime as he was unable to meet the $150,000 bail amount set by the court.
