Cabinet clears contracts for repairs for ferries, interior roads

Cabinet has given no objections to billions of dollars in contracts for various sectors, including road repairs and rehabilitation works to be done on three transport vessels.

At a post-cabinet press briefing on Thursday, reporters were provided with eight pages of contracts which gained Cabinet’s no-objections within the last two weeks.

In Region Three, a contract worth $18.1M was awarded to Design Perspectives; in Region Four Mohamed Ramzalli Khan was awarded an $11.9M contract to rehabilitate Vlissengen Road; and $12.8M was awarded to H.Nauth and Sons for the rehabilitation of roads in Kaneville and Golden Grove/Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

A $47.9M contract has been awarded to SYMS General Construction for rehabilitation works on   the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and $15.5M to S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction for works on Damon Avenue, McKenzie and Well Road, South Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

With regards to the rehabilitation and maintenance of several interior roads, a $31.3M contract was awarded to RIM Construction Inc. for the Rockstone to Mabura Road; $34.3M to JR Ranch Inc. for the South Kurupukuri to Lethem road; $28.4 M to BK International Inc for the Lethem to Katoonarib and Aishalton to Karaudarnau roads and $28.3M to SYMS General Contractors for the Katoonarib and Aishalton Road.

Additionally, Cabinet granted its no-objection to contracts valued more than $190M for the rehabilitation of two transport vessels.

A $107.4M contract has been awarded to the Guyana National Indus-trial Company for the rehabilitation of the MV Kimbia, $33.4M to Courtney Benn Construc-tion Services Ltd. for rehabilitation works on the MV Sandaka and $150.6M to Courtney Benn Construction Services Ltd. for the MV Barima.

Contracts for rehabilitation of two interior airstrips and construction of sluices also gained Cabinet’s no-objection. Contracts for the procurement of millions of dollars’ worth of laboratory equipment for the University of Guyana were also cleared by Cabinet.
