A four-member team represented the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) at the recently concluded World Expo 2015 held in Milan, Italy.
Director of GTA Indranauth Haralsingh said at a press conference last week that Guyana participated along with seven other Caricom countries and shared a space in the Caricom Pavilion. During the expo, Singh said, a lot of ideas were displayed to boost Guyana as an attractive and must visit tourism destination and also to speak about its vast potential for agriculture and export readiness of products for the European market which is our number one purchaser of sugar.
The persons representing Guyana were Senior Communications Officer of GTA Shevon Singh; Investment Officer Kamrul Baksh; Research and Planning Analyst, Ministry of Tourism Sheka Logan and Tourism Development Officer, Ministry of Tourism, Surujdai Ragubar.
Their main objectives were to promote export-ready products from Guyana, to advertise the country as an attractive and cost effective vacation for foreign direct investments and to interact with Italian and international media to enhance the overall image of Guyana.
Haralsingh said the quartet spent four months at the expo, which was held over a period of six months – from May 1 to October 31 under the theme, ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. He noted that it was the largest, longest and most sustained destination promotion for Guyana.
Over 21 million people attended the expo over the six-month period. The expo is held every five years and the next one is scheduled for 2020 in Dubai.
