Stafarei Alexander, one of the three men captured after a robbery at Mahaicony last week, is now a remanded prisoner after being read six charges, including murder.
Alexander, also known as Anthony Williams, 32, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a city court, where he was charged with murdering Linden businesswoman Shevon Gordon. It is alleged that he killed Gordon, 45, at Block 22, One Mile, Wismar, Linden on April 4, this year.
Alexander also faced a charge of attempted murder. It was alleged that on March 23, this year, he discharged a loaded firearm with intent to murder Curtis Thom, 47, at Laing Avenue, Georgetown.
Alexander was also read four charges of armed robbery stemming from his alleged involvement in the Mahaicony robbery, which was committed last Wednesday at La Raisonable. It was alleged that on November 4, while being armed with a gun and in the company of others, he robbed Lakranie Singh of a $3.3 million car and other items, which were valued at a combined $4.3 million.
It was alleged too that he robbed Jasoda Singh of a cell phone, valued at $30,000, a handbag valued $3,000 and $3,000. He is also alleged to have robbed Narine Singh of a cell phone and a wallet containing money, which together were valued at $148,000. Natasha Bobb was also allegedly robbed by Alexander of $80,000 in several items and cash.
Alexander was not required to plead to the charges, which were all indictable and he was remanded to prison until his next court date.
Alexander was one of the three men captured and beaten by Mahaicony residents after a robbery at the J Singh and Son Supermarket, which saw robbers escape in the store owner’s vehicle and then crash during their attempted getaway.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News yesterday that the other two men were also positively identified by the victims and are expected to be charged shortly.
A source said that the men have all denied any involvement in the robbery. Nevertheless, they will be taken before the court by the end of the week.
Alexander’s next court date in the murder case is November 25, when the matter will be called at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. Three other men, Robin Maxwell Thomas, 22, Adoni Bowen, 26, and Anthony Primo, 29, had been charged in May with Gordon’s murder. Gordon and her husband, Elon Gordon, had been ambushed outside their home, where the bandits demanded a bag containing cash that she had on her. When she resisted, she was shot to her body.
Alexander’s next court date for the attempted murder matter is December 10, in a city court. Thom was shot to his chest and left shoulder while in his yard feeding his dog at 1 am.
Meanwhile, Alexander is due to appear at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court on November 18, when the next hearing in the armed robbery matters is scheduled.
