BRIDGETOWN, Barba-dos, CMC – Barbados Pride needed just 54 minutes to wrap up an uncomplicated 10-wicket triumph over Jamaica Scorpions, and make a strong start to their Regional First Class Championship campaign here yesterday.
They picked up the last two Scorpions wickets for the addition of only 26 runs in just over half-hour as the visitors were dismissed for 187 in their second innings, and then scored the required four runs to complete the victory at Kensington Oval.
They secured 17 points for their efforts while Scorpions walked away with a single point.
Resuming the day on 161 for eight, Scorpions would have entertained thoughts of saving the game after heavy rains here delayed the start by 1-1/2 hours.
Once the skies cleared, however, fast bowler Kemar Roach swiftly removed Jason Dawes (9) and Marquino Mindley (13) to end the Scorpions innings.
With the seventh delivery of the day, Roach trapped Dawes lbw after the tail-ender had added just one run to his overnight eight not out, with Scorpions on 162 for nine.
Damion Jacobs, who began the day on 21, then held up Pride as he stroked an unbeaten32 in a 25-run, last wicket stand with Marquino Mindley who scored 13.
However, Roach ended the resistance when he had Mindley caught low at gully by Roston Chase.
Jacobs struck two fours and a six off 51 deliveries.
Pride then needed three overs to knock off the required runs.
Captain Kraigg Brathwaite was voted Man-of-the-Match for his first innings 119.
In the next round starting Friday, Pride host Trinidad and Tobago Red Force while Scorpions entertain Windward Islands Volcanoes.
