As the government seeks to conclude the development of housing schemes, it is appealing to persons who have been allocated lots to immediately begin construction.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) report said Minister within the Ministry of Communities Keith Scott has indicated that they will be taking a firmer stance with persons who have acquired lots but have chosen not to reside there because of a perceived lack of adequate infrastructure and supporting facilities.
Scott reiterated that the ministry is cognisant of the fact that the government isexpected to provide certain services, but he added that persons have to occupy the lots received in order to encourage others to move there.
“….people cannot just come to us, get a house lot and just stay back and say that they are waiting for everything to be 100 percent,” he said.
He added that the development of the housing schemes is a ‘two-way street,’ with the residents and the ministry working collectively to enhance the community.
The report also noted that as the government seeks to fulfil its vision of establishing communities with adequate infrastructure and essential support facilities and amenities, housing engineers have been assessing the roads, water and installation of infrastructure for electricity and placement of playgrounds within these areas.
