Dear Editor,
I refer to your Sunday editorial of November 8 titled, ‘Anti-democratic defence’ in the fifth paragraph, second sentence, “According to the PPP, Attorney General Basil Williams asked to meet the management committee of Red House on the matter, but apparently did not send anything in writing first from AG’s Chambers, which is surely not acceptable.” Let me categorically state that the information contained in this editorial is erroneous albeit based on the PPP/C’s “imprudent” press release.
Mr Hydar Ally by letter dated October 1, 2015 requested a meeting with the Ministry of the Presidency to deal with “Re: Lease of Red House by the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre.”
By email dated Friday October 9, 2015 Ms Namela Henry/Rowe, Personal Assistant to the Attorney-General wrote to Mr Hydar Ally advising that, “the Honourable Minister of Legal Affairs Basil Williams will meet with you , Mr. Ralph Ramkarran and Mrs. Indra Chanderpaul on Monday October 12, 2015 at 10 hours,” on the subject of the Red House lease.
Mr Hydar Ally confirmed the date and time for the meeting via telephone with the AG Chambers. The AG subsequently hosted the requested meeting with Mr Hydar Ally and Mr Ralph Ramkarran as scheduled.
Hence the information contained in Sunday’s editorial is the PPP/C’s disingenuous attempt to deflect from the public’s eye the infighting within the party over the malfeasance by holders of public office on the Red House deal whilst the PPP/C was in government.
Yours faithfully,
Namela Henry/Rowe
PRO/Personal Assistant
Attorney General
