Almost a year after being jailed for assaulting his wife, Mark Singh was yesterday sentenced once again for attacking the woman.
Singh, 41, of Bourda was sentenced to 12 months in jail after he admitted that he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Sujata Persaud on November 7th. It was third conviction for assaulting Persaud in less than a year.
On December 12th, last year, Singh was sentenced to three months in jail after he admitted that he had threatened to cut off Persaud’s neck. He was sentenced again in March this year to two months after being found guilty of assaulting Persaud.
When the new charge was read to him by Magistrate Annette Singh in a city court yesterday, without hesitation Singh pleaded guilty. He was unrepresented by counsel.
According to the prosecution, at around 11pm on the day of the attack, Singh returned home under the influence of alcohol and started to physically assault Persaud, which resulted in her receiving serious injuries.
Persaud, who was present during the proceedings, informed the court that it was customary that Singh would abuse her and she often asked him to leave the house but he would ignore her demands.
