A man is now dead after he was hit off of his bicycle along the East Bank Demerara highway on Sunday night.
The body of Ekron De Freitas, 25, of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was identified by his uncle Guy Franklin at the Lyken Funeral Home yesterday.
“I just got a call from his mother that she hear he was involved in an accident and for me to go check for him. Well I didn’t know exactly where to check so I was around town all day,” Franklin told Stabroek News yesterday. He said he checked all the police stations and health centres along the way until he was finally directed to the funeral home. “I took his brother there with me, just in case, and, to be honest, I wasn’t sure at first because he was bloody but it’s when his brother started to break down, that’s when I knew for sure,” he added.
Franklin said he last saw De Freitas early Sunday morning drinking with friends. He further pointed out that it was a norm for the man to get drunk and ride his bicycle home.
