A third person allegedly involved with a gang of men who stole millions from America Street money changers during an ambush earlier this month is expected to be charged for the offence today, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.
Blanhum yesterday told Stabroek News that while the suspect will be charged today the police are still pursuing several others.
The moneychangers were robbed on the evening of November 3 when armed bandits, who were riding motorbikes, descended on them. The bandits were said to have been armed with automatic weapons, which they fired into the air before demanding that the moneychangers hand over their cash.
Eyewitnesses had told this newspaper that the robbers, who used five motorbikes and a car to carry out the attack, pulled up at America Street and fired shots into the air while demanding the moneychangers hand over everything.
