A Government Technical Institute lecturer was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail after he was charged with physically abusing the mother of his child.
John Russell, 25, of South Ruimveldt Park, pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding of Joy Worrel, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that on November 15, Russell became annoyed with Worrel because she wanted money to go home and began hitting her, causing several lacerations near her left eye. Worrel was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she received seven stitches for the lacerations.
Yesterday, the virtual complainant who was in court showed her swollen left eye and the lacerations to the magistrate who then advised them both on the Domestic Violence Act Protection order.
Bail was set at $200,000 and the accused will return to court on December 2 for statements.
