A North Sophia man was yesterday remanded to prison after police reportedly found him smoking a “joint” and with a quantity of cannabis stashed in a chair at his residence.
Christopher David, 29, of Lot 2 TT North Sophia, was charged with having 21 grammes of cannabis in his possession on November 16. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution stated that on the day in question, a search was carried out at the North Sophia premises where a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems were found in a chair. According to the police report, David had admitted then that the narcotics belonged to him.
David, in his explanation to the court, denied that the narcotics the police found in the chair were his but accepted ownership of the `blunt’ he said he had been smoking at the time of the bust. The defendant noted also that he shares the house with eight others and four other persons were present when the police carried out their search.
The prosecution objected to bail being granted to the accused on the grounds that no special reasons existed for such to be granted. This application was upheld by Magistrate Judy Latchman, who ordered David remanded to prison until December 3, when his trial will commence.
