BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – All-rounder Kevin Stoute will lead Barbados Pride in their third round game against Guyana Jaguars in the Regional First Class Championship this weekend, while discarded Test players Sulieman Benn and Tino Best have been called up as part of several changes to the squad for the fixture in Georgetown.
Stoute takes over from West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite who along with batsmen Shai Hope and Shane Dowrich, fast bowler Kemar Roach and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, have all been omitted because of West Indies duty.
They are all part of the regional squad which leaves the Caribbean next Monday for the Test tour of Australia.
Left-hander Jonathan Carter, who just returned from the limited overs tour of Sri Lanka, has been drafted into the 13-man Pride squad along with wicketkeeper Mario Rampersaud, left-arm spinner Benn, speedster Best and leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr.
The 34-year-old Benn, with 94 first class games and 26 Tests behind him, will add much needed experience along with Best, who has played 112 first class games.
Between them, they boast 668 first class wickets.
Jaguars have won both their opening matches in the championship and lead the standings with 35 points while Barbados are second on 25 points, after beating Jamaica Scorpions by ten wickets in the first round and drawing their second round match on Monday against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
The third round of the Regional First Class Championship bowls off across the region on Friday.
