After biding his time until customers left, a lone bandit yesterday robbed Khan’s Tyre shop at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.
“The man come with a bicycle and just point the gun at my worker head and demanded cash,” Ameer Khan, the owner of the tyre shop told Stabroek News yesterday.
He said the attack occurred around midday and the gunman took $200,000 and several phones.
According to Khan, the man appeared to have been surveilling the business ahead of the attack.
“Is not the first time we seeing this man. He came yesterday and asked about an air filter and he came earlier and asked about the same thing today,” Khan said. He noted that at the other times the man visited, the shop was usually filled with people. Only Khan and a worker were present when the robbery took place yesterday.
“He was even scoping the place out before. The neighbours said that they noticed the bicycle riding up and down all day, so I guess he was just waiting on people to leave to rob we,” he added.
After the man stuck them up with the gun and led them into the shop, he locked them inside and escaped, Khan noted. “He lock we in and run out to his bike and ride away in the opposite direction he come from,” he said.
While Khan is counting his blessings that no one was injured, he was upset at the response time of the police. “I call all sorts of number and they busy, busy. From one station to the next and nobody ain’t answer we yet. I finally got on to someone who called an officer and it’s been about 20 minutes and nobody ain’t reach here yet,” he said.
