Can’t former presidents offer comments to sitting presidents?

Dear Editor,

The stinging rebuke by a sitting President to a former president seemed, in my view, unstatesmanlike. Further it does not augur well for national unity and inclusiveness.

We recall some years ago a sitting president chided another former president for comments which did not find favour with the then sitting president.

It therefore begs the question can’t former presidents offer a comment or make a suggestion to a sitting president without incurring their displeasure?

Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
