The best way to make a name for yourself in the sporting arena is to be a winner.
Elliott Vieira is not a household name just yet but if he keeps on winning, that will soon change.
The little known 17-year-old sent the rest of the Caribbean racing fraternity a formal invitation to his coming out party during the course of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) which concluded last Sunday by racing away with the top honors of the CMRC Super Stock class.
He is the youngest to achieve that feat and he did it in his first year of racing competitively.
“It’s pretty amazing that I have achieved this accomplishment in just my first year of racing in the series” the sixth form student of the School of the Nations told this publication yesterday.
“It’s something new, it’s a new experience, and it’s hard to put in words” he added.
The cousin of the more celebrated Matthew and Stephen Vieira started racing with go-karts but after that was shelved he decided to switch to two wheels.
The decision has paid off for the second generation speed demon whose father Wayne Vieira also raced competitively.
Wayne knows there are inherent risks involved with his son setting the circuit ablaze with speeds up to 118 miles per hour, but he is totally behind him.
So is his “biggest cheerleader” Anna Lisa Fraser-Phang, a group member of Pure Racing who mentored Vieira during his go-kart days.
“We saw him in training so we knew what he was capable of doing. We were tremendously pleased, good riding is a combination of the skill of the rider and the machine and we know that Elliott had the talent.”
Fraser-Phang noted that despite his aggression on the race track, “it’s his attitude that lets us marvel, he is a very humble person and his success hasn’t gone to his head. “That’s my boy” she exclaimed. “I am his biggest cheerleader.”
The teen added the CMRC Super Stock trophy to his cabinet last week, but he has his sights set on bigger goals as he continues to male a name for himself.
“I’m really hoping to ride in the British Super Series or even Moto Gp but those standards are really high but nothing is impossible.”
The first leg of the next CMRC is on May 22, 2016in the homeland of Bolt, Jamaica. Vieira will look to continue his winning ways while making a name for himself. (Emmerson Campbell)
