With positions in the semi-final round up for grabs, the elimination round in the GTT/Limacol Football Championship will commence today at the Victoria Community ground in the East Coast of Demerara.
In the feature contest at 20:00hrs, home side Victoria Kings will lock horns with Berbice outfit New Amsterdam United. Due to their home support and superior numbers, Victoria Kings will start as the match as the favourite.
On the offensive end, the hosts have registered four goals over the course of their three game campaign, with William Pompey and Alden Lawrence the main threats with a goal apiece.
With regards to their rearguard numbers, Victoria Kings have been effective as they have only been breached twice led by the tough tackling Sherlock Dowden.
On the other hand, New Amsterdam United have been very dangerous in the attacking third as they have netted five goals thus far led by the sibling combination of Adrian and Leonardo Adams.
However, in terms of their defensive statistics, the Berbicians have struggled as they have conceded seven goals to date. The opening match will pit the Mining Town team against the East Coast of Demerara team as Linden unit Milerock lock horns with Golden Grove from 18:00hrs.
Finishing second in the group-B, Milerock will enter the match as the marginal favourite. In terms of their attacking quality, the Lindeners have recorded three goals in as many matches, with Clarence Huggins their primary threat with two goals.
Defensively, they have conceded four goals to date. On the other side, Golden Grove have recorded four goals over the course of their three matches. On the defensive end, they will have to improve as they let in an unwanted seven goals.
Presently, Linden units Topp XX and Winners Connection have earned automatic berths to the semi-final stage after winning group-B and Group-A respectively.
Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second place side will pocket $250,000 and the respective accolade. The third place side will receive $125,000 and a trophy while the fourth positioned unit will collect $75,000 and the respective accolade.
