Dear Editor,
We would like to raise objection to the statement made by the Finance Minister at the GMSA annual dinner as reported in Kaieteur News’ November 21 edition in a story captioned ‘No Guyanese products adorn Caribbean shelves -save for El Dorado rum…’
Our company, Twins Manufacturing Chemists, has been producing quality locally made products since 1970 for the local and export markets. Our product range includes Tussadryl, Red Star, Ferrotone, Juviton, Golden Dawn & Baby Doll products, Flavormate Essences & Sauces, Hygenol amd Insectox, among others.
These products are not only household names in Guyana, but also can be found on shelves in Antigua, Trinidad, Barbados, St Lucia, Grenada, Suriname, St Vincent, USA, Canada, etc.
The Finance Minister and other ministers can assist the local manufacturers by promoting the purchase of locally produced products in all ministries and government offices as the government is the largest purchaser of products and services.
Although we are faced with the importation of cheap quality products and receive no government support, we have been able in this environment to produce quality products for Guyanese that represent Guyana throughout Caricom and overseas.
Yours faithfully,
Shafeek Ferouz
