Georgetown Football Club (GFC) secured only their third win in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League, downing Monedderlust FC by a 1-0 margin in their final league matchup on Saturday at the Tucville Community ground.
Romario Welcome separated the two teams as he found the back of the net in the 11th minute. With the win, GFC leapfrog Monedderlust into the seventh position with 12 points. Monedderlust on the other hand, drop to the cellar position with 10 points.
In the second matchup, Fruta Conquerors and Buxton United battled to a 0-0 stalemate in their final league fixture. Due to the draw, Fruta Conquerors move onto 20 points in the fourth position while Buxton United move onto 13 points and remain in the sixth position.
Fruta Conquerors will no await the conclusion of the Pele FC and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) matchup to know if they have clinched their berth to the final four stage. Following the conclusion of the league stage, the top four teams will advance to the knockout round.
Winner of the round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage in the League Genesis round will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
