An East La Penitence greens vendor ended up with three gunshot wounds to his right leg last evening when he was attacked outside of his cousin’s Albouystown home and robbed of the day’s sales.
Stall owner Anita Arjune said that she was at her home waiting for her cousin, Ramrattan, 46, when he was attacked in front of her house just as he was about to enter the yard.
The men, who were masked at the time, were both armed with handguns, Arjune stated.
Arjune explained that she sells at the stall during the morning and Ramrattan sells in the afternoon. As a result, when he turned up he had the day’s sales wrapped in a plastic bag tucked in his pants pocket along with the keys for the stall, which the bandits escaped with, she said.
Arjune, whose was also grazed by a bullet, said she was at her front door looking out about 5.50 pm when she saw the men grab Ramrattan and a scuffle ensued before gunshots began ringing out. “I just start hollering and me granddaughter was standing next to me and me had to push she inside the house and lock the door,” Arjune recounted.
The woman said that after she began raising an alarm, the men pointed their gun towards her, which sent her running for shelter inside the house.
The men escaped in a waiting white car with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The police responded promptly upon being called and subsequently transported Ramrattan to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Up to last evening, he was in the operating theatre.
Although the lawmen searched the area for the bandits, up to last evening they came up empty handed, Arjune said.
Two years ago the family was attacked and robbed by two bandits on Christmas Eve, the woman stated. No one was arrested for that attack.
