A Stabroek market vendor was yesterday released on $25,000 bail after she pleaded not guilty to wounding her sister.
Radha Persaud, 37, of West Ruimveldt, was charged in Georgetown with unlawfully and maliciously wounding her sister, Saraswati Persaud and causing grievous harm to her body.
According to the prosecution, the alleged attack occurred on November 17, at Lot 2 Yarrow Dam, West Ruimveldt and the matter was then reported by the virtual complainant to the police station.
The mother of two pleaded not guilty to the charge and, since there was no objection by the police, she was given bail in the sum of $25,000 by Magistrate Fabayo Azore. Her next hearing is on December 8.
Meanwhile, also charg-ed yesterday was security guard Kevin Lyte, 56, who was accused of wounding a woman who has been known to him for years.
It is alleged that Lyte, of Albouystown, on Novem-ber 10, at Nonpareil Street Albouystown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Pearline Edwards, causing grievous harm to her body.
Lyte, who was without legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court he never hurt Edwards.
Lyte was also granted $25,000 bail by Magistrate Azore and his next court hearing is also scheduled for December 8.
