ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – The West Indies Cricket Board said Monday it would launch an investigation into the preparation of the pitch at Windsor Park after the third round game of the Regional Regional First Class Championship finished inside two days there last Saturday.
In a low-scoring contest on a dodgy wicket, Windward Islands Volcanoes came away with an eight-wicket victory after Leeward Islands Hurricanes stumbled to 24 for seven before declaring their first innings before lunch on the first morning.
Richard Pybus, the WICB’s Director of Cricket, said he would mull over match referee and umpire reports as well as those from the captain and coaches, in an attempt to ascertain what transpired with the Windsor Park pitch. “We will speak to all of the relevant parties to get a clear picture of what took place at Windsor Park and decide on the course of action once we have reviewed all the reports,” Pybus said.
Volcanoes took a lead of 116 on first innings before dismissing Hurricanes for 170 and easily romping to the victory target of 55 late on Saturday evening.
The game was the first to be played in Dominica since the country was devastated by Hurricane Erika in August.
