A Berbice River fuel supplier was shot to the face on Monday night during an attempted robbery in New Amsterdam.
Dean Nigel Primus, 38, of Lot 338 Stanleytown, is currently hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Police, in a release, said Primus was driving a vehicle along a road at Stanleytown, when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
During the attack, Primus was shot to the left side of his jaw and the men escaped on a bicycle.
According to Julius Dey, who lives with Primus, at around 7.20 pm, Primus was about to turn into his premises when he was attacked.
Stabroek News was told that Primus had his windows up when he was attacked and the gunman apparently fired the shot at him, shattering the driver’s side window.
The entire interior of the vehicle was blood-spattered.
Dey explained that after he heard an explosive sound, he came out of the house and saw a person approaching Primus. He added that when he came out, he called for help and neighbours responded and the perpetrator escaped. Dey noted that they then found Primus in the vehicle bleeding profusely.
He and others rushed Primus to the hospital, where he was admitted.
Dey said it was the second attempt to rob Primus while he was headed home. The last occasion was approximately six months ago.
