The retrial of Anthony Morrison commenced on Wednesday before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and a 12-member jury at the High Court, in Georgetown.
The charge against the accused is that in May, 2012, he murdered Donna Thomas at their Lot 65 D’Urban Street, George-town home.
He has pleaded not guilty.
In her opening address to the jury, prosecutor Stacy Goodings had said that the two shared a common-law relationship and lived at D’Urban Street, where Morrison is alleged to have murdered Thomas.
The woman’s body was discovered face down in a pool of blood with several stab wounds.
The prosecutor revealed that the state’s case is circumstantial.
At the conclusion of Morrison’s first trial, before Justice Navindra Singh last year, a jury was unable to arrive at a unanimous verdict.
The trial continues this morning at 10 when the state’s final witness, Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh is expected to take the stand.
Eight of the nine state witnesses have so far testified.
The state is being represented by Goodings in association with attorney Siand Dhurjon, while Morrison is being represented by attorney Arun Gajraj.
