Bursting with excitement and eagerness, fifty primary school students recently participated in the Guyana Energy Agency’s (GEA) “Express Your Energy” activity held at the Transport and Harbours Sports Complex in Thomas Lands, a release from the GEA said.
Organised as one of the GEA’s events to commemorate Caricom Energy Week (November 8-14, 2015); the non-competitive relay activity required the nine to eleven year old students to express through artwork/pictorial illustrations, word searches and conservation tips their interpretation and knowledge of energy sources, sustainability, energy conservation and energy efficiency , the release stated.
With their classmates cheering them on, the students from Graham’s Hall, North Georgetown, West Ruimveldt, St Agnes and St Ambrose primary schools powered through their energy-based activities before jumping, bunny hopping, running or walking to the next stations.
Not to be left out teachers added to the excitement as they suggested energy efficient tips and illustrated energy sources. Students demonstrated a solid grasp of the subject matter as they participated in an animated discussion and quiz, following the screening of energy conservation videos.
‘Certificates of Partici-pation’ were presented to the participating schools/ student(s), while honorary ‘Energy Champion’ awards were bestowed on them and their teachers as a token of appreciation.
The GEA said that the annual observance of Energy Week provides an additional platform which enables the agency to disseminate information essential to improving public awareness on sustainable energy, conversation and efficiency.
