The prosecution yesterday closed its case against Anthony Morrison, who is on trial for the murder of his common-law wife, Donna Thomas.
The trial is scheduled to continue on Monday morning at 9, at which point defence attorney Arun Gajraj will make submissions.
The allegation against Morrison, who is facing a retrial, is that between May 25th and May 26th, 2012, he murdered Donna Thomas at their Lot 65 D’Urban Street, George-town home.
He has pleaded not guilty. The matter is being heard before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and a 12-member jury at the High Court, in Georgetown.
Thomas’ body was discovered lying face down in a pool of blood with several stab wounds.
At the conclusion of Morrison’s first trial, before Justice Navindra Singh last year, a jury was unable to arrive at a unanimous verdict.
Testifying at yesterday’s hearing was government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who recalled performing a post-mortem examination on Thomas’ body and giving the cause of death as asphyxiation due to compression injuries to the neck, compounded by blunt perennial trauma to the head.
The state is being represented by prosecutor Stacy Goodings in association with attorney Siand Dhurjon.
